The Bride Arrived in a Minett-Shields Wooden Boat

A candid kiss and the parents' reactions at St. Anne's Church, Port Carling

The bride arrived by wooden boat — which is the kind of detail that makes a Muskoka wedding feel unmistakably itself. St. Anne's Church on Whiteside Road in Port Carling is small, lakeside, and beautifully intimate, with a side door that gave me a quiet vantage point during the ceremony.

The frame I'm sharing here is the kiss — and just as importantly, the parents' faces in the same instant. These are the moments that posed coverage misses entirely: the reactions of the people who raised them, watching it happen. With the ceremony in full swing, I slipped into candid mode and stayed out of the way.

Muskoka weddings are some of my favourites to photograph — they tend to gather the same multi-generational, cottage-country families I now spend most of my time photographing back in Toronto, in Leaside, Lawrence Park, Rosedale, and Forest Hill.
